26 weavers, one loom tradition

Palpali dhaka has been woven in Tansen for generations. We make sure the weavers earn fairly for it.

Our shop started in 2074 BS when Sushila Rana, a third-generation weaver, got tired of middlemen paying NPR 200 for a topi that sold for NPR 900 in Kathmandu.

Today, 26 women weave from home on their own looms. They set their own hours and receive 55% of every sale, paid every Friday through their own bank accounts.

A topi takes about 6 hours to weave, and a wedding shawl takes 3 days. When you wear one, you're wearing someone's week.
